Dharana is like the classic image of hypnosis where you look deeply at the watch swinging back and forth getting “very sleepy”. Essentially, it is the practice of keeping your mind occupied on one thing while your deeper senses awaken to guide you into meditation.
During our moving meditation of physical asana practice, it is common to focus on a certain area of the body and watch how it functions with the rest of our anatomy. With dharana, you sit with your attention on this point in stillness.
