Day 8: One Legged Arching Dog / Eka Pada Adho Mukha Svanasana
Today, the monkey noises were flowing out as I tried balancing my one legged arching dog and teaching it to Periscope! But instead of getting overwhelmed and judging myself for not being able to do this insane pose while looking at a camera and thinking of how to describe everything my body was doing… I was able to laugh! And make monkey noises! Try it out for yourself and see how light hearted your practice can be when you don’t take things too seriously!
Starting in three legged dog pose, begin to shift your hips and stack the raises leg hip over the standing leg hip.
Bend the raised leg heel toward your booty and try to raise the knee higher to the sky to increase the length of the standing leg. As if you were actually bringing your butt to your foot rather than vice versa.
Find your weight in the opposite arm of the lifted leg in order to reach back for the outside of your ankle. Gently pulling your foot toward your sit bone will lengthen the top of your raised leg and mimic that of a split!
