Quick Tips

  • Stack 2-4 blankets on mat against wall to make a platform about 6 inches high.

  • Lay on your back with your feet up the wall and shoulders about 3 inches from edge of blankets.

  • After broadening the collar bones by tucking under the shoulder blades, begin to lift hips off the floor like a bridge up the wall.

Adjustments

  • If elbows are wider than shoulders, rock weight to one shoulder at a time to tuck shoulder blades further in.

  • If there is a crease in your hips, tuck your tailbone under and engage your psoas like in bridge pose.

Variations

  • Interlace hands behind back

  • Extend one leg out in front of face

  • Balance with both legs extended above shoulders

Modifications

  • Pole: For those with tight shoulders, grab pole under shoulder stand with palms up and pull pole into back to stabilize balance and ground triceps to floor

  • Chair: With a blanket on base of chair and bolster on floor ahead of chair, sink legs into back hole and slowly lower back down to seat. Keeping hands along chair legs, sink shoulders down to bolster and walk legs up wall.
